Connection Types
What are radiator valves and how to choose the correct one?
Radiator valves control the flow of hot water into a radiator, allowing you to adjust the heat output or turn the radiator off when needed. They play a crucial role in energy efficiency and temperature control.
There are two main types of radiator valves:
-
Manual Valves - Work like a tap; you turn them to increase or decrease the water flow.
-
Thermostatic Radiator Valves (TRVs) - Automatically adjust the heat output based on room temperature.

Choose between manual vs. thermostatic valves
Manual Valves - Work like a tap; you turn them to increase or decrease the water flow.
Thermostatic Radiator Valves (TRVs) - Automatically adjust the heat output based on room temperature.
2
Check your pipework orientation (angled, or corner valves)
The type of valve you need depends on the pipework direction:
Angled
Valves
Corner
Valves
3
Choose the right aize (15mm is atandard)
Most UK domestic radiators use 15mm valves, but check your pipe size in case you need 8mm or 10mm.
